In the year 2220, communicating across intergalactic distances is made possible by RioCom through its network of relay stations located in the vast emptiness of space between colonies. Each station has one person supervising and maintaining the station in solitude for the duration of a three-year contract.

To prevent them from going mad, the operator (or “Comms”) is mandated to communicate with another operator in the network for a one hour socialisation session at regular intervals and discuss their isolation. Questions and topics are directed by the system AI, Zero. This period is called “InterComms” and, beyond their supply pods, it is the Comms’ only contact with the outside world.
